While still licking their wounds from Drakfort's brazen attempt on Valhadria Academy, Basch and his friends receive word of yet another attempt-but this time, it isn't on Valhadria.
This time, Drakfort is threatening to seize the Grand Council. If they succeed, the whole realm will be turned against them, and Drakfort will have an army of dragon riders at their side. Basch and his friends have been summoned-and if they want to have any hope of victory over Drakfort and defeat the Onyx Dragon, they can't refuse.
But Basch won't just need the Grand Council's help. He'll need to unlock the powers of his forebears, the Ur-Mages who'd come before him. The powers and knowledge contained within each of the Ur-Mage relics are within his grasp, if he can learn to seize them. But with the Grand Council's summit drawing closer, time is against them.
And with the final battle against the Onyx Dragon drawing ever closer, Basch and his allies will need to grow in their magic-before Lucius Blackblade's dark power consumes it all.
