About
When Maggie is suspended from school following her involvement in a fire, her worried mother sends her to the elite Cliveden College. A boarding school full of the kids of posh families like her father's, who died when she was young, she'll be separated from her sisters, her friends, and from Elliott, her childhood crush, who finally seems like he might be about to reciprocate her feelings.
On arriving at Cliveden, Maggie starts to receive threatening notes. The author says they know about the fire and says if she doesn't leave, they'll tell. People like her don't belong here, they say. Even her fun roommates and dashing Theo Willoughby and his almost-kisses can't distract her from the enemy who's determined to bring her down.
But as she builds a friendship with Amara, a girl who carries the Dashwood name for a very different reason, Maggie realizes there's only one way to stake her claim on this world: to change it for the better. Can she find the strength to face up to the truth about the fire, and to those who tell her she'll never be good enough? Christine Pillainayagam is a writer and retail strategist who lives in Kent with her young family and a collection of records, CD's and minidiscs (remember those?) that she refuses to be parted from, despite being aware what decade she lives in. A mild obsession with The Beatles and the desire to write a story that reflected her own experiences growing up as a first-generation immigrant, led her to put that love of music and words into a book, resulting in Ellie Pillai Is Brown, her debut teen novel, the first in a trilogy. Her latest novel is Perfect Sense, a YA contemporary continuation of Austen's Sense and Sensibility. A contemporary and diverse Sense & Sensibility spin-off by YA Book prize shortlistee Christine Pillainayagam
