Do you know what the number one mistake most people make when it comes to goal setting is?
It's not knowing what they REALLY want. The thing is: If you don't know what you want, how will you know when you've got it?
Too often people set goals that are far too abstract – things like:
"I want to be successful" "I want to be happy" "I want to be rich"
The trouble is, there's no concrete definition of what successful/happy/rich is.
My definition of "successful" might not be the same as yours. The amount of money that would make me feel as though I were "rich" could be more (or less) than would make you feel the same way.
So it's important that you have a SPECIFIC goal.
For example if you want to be "successful", how do you define that? Do you want to be successful in business, in love, in sports?
Instead of saying "I want to be successful", first define your goal as "I want to be successful in business" - if that's the sort of success you're after.
But I would narrow that down even further…
Something like: "I want to own a business with a one million dollar turnover and at least three full-time employees before the end of next year."
Now you have something specific to aim for. You know EXACTLY what you want to achieve, and you've established a time-frame in which to achieve it. You can then break this large goal down into smaller goals to make your main goal more achievable.
