About

"Luna Benamor" is a hidden gem of Spanish literature written by Vicente Blasco Ibez. Set in early 20th-century Gibraltar, portrayed as an international and cosmopolitan community, the novel immerses us in a moving story of impossible love and cultural conflicts.
In addition to offering a fascinating account of life in the British colony, a crucial point for trade routes, the romance between a Spanish consul and a young Sephardic woman allows the Valencian writer to reflect on the weight of prejudice and traditions among people who live together but are distant from one another. Furthermore, the author explores the persecution of the Jewish people and reflects on Spain's difficult relationship with the descendants of those expelled centuries ago from the "beautiful land", kept alive in their memory as an open wound.
