As the novel begins, young Rob Coogan's biggest challenge is determining if he should pursue life as a musician or as a professional footballer playing in England. In the time of The Irish Troubles, Coogan unwittingly plays a part in an IRA car bomb detonation that takes the lives of his adoring younger siblings. He leaves Ireland for a prestigious music school in Boston, where he begins life as a guitarist and songwriter. In church one night, he discovers the younger brother of a friend being molested by the priest. The choice he makes that night sets his life down an unforeseen path of justice, rage, and secrets. Nothing beats a great book and a hot cocoa on a cold winter evening! I've never read anything like A Man for Others An utter surprise. An outstanding first book by author Kevin Couhig. Where to even begin? The Irish Flare, foe and fairies? Fanaticism and layered moral conundrums? Pushing the limit of what is law and what is just? Flavors of Irish humor and New Orleans gumbo. Beguiling Irish wit and soul bracing prose. The brutal reality of children hurt by adults, "soul murder" and relentless guardians. Well-paced chapters and masterful weaving offset weighty topics. Carrie Morgan AMAZON Loved it! I couldn't put this book down. The way the author weaves Irish history of The Troubles as well as Irish myths and legends is extraordinary. Justice takes many forms. Sometimes it's for a political cause, sometimes it's to protect children. Is it always worthy, no matter what? Wanda Fischer, REEDSEY DISCOVERY
