Accelerate: The fast track to sort your books, sort your business, sort your life is a practical guide for business owners who want to understand their numbers without feeling overwhelmed, intimidated or buried in jargon. For many people in business, finances sit in the background as a constant source of low-level stress. Cash flow feels unpredictable and tax obligations seem to creep up unexpectedly. Business decisions also seem to be made on instinct rather than insight. And while the business may be busy, there's often a lingering question - is this actually working? This book is here to change that. Drawing on more than 25 years of real-world experience across banking, construction and small business, Keri Whitelaw breaks down the financial side of business into simple, accessible concepts that anyone can understand and apply. Rather than turning readers into accountants, Accelerate focuses on giving business owners just enough knowledge to feel confident, in control and able to make informed decisions. At its core, the book tackles one of the biggest challenges facing small businesses: lack of visibility. Research consistently shows that poor financial management and cashflow issues are among the leading causes of business failure. Yet most owners were never taught how to read their numbers in a practical, meaningful way. Accelerate addresses this gap by showing not just what the numbers are, but how to use them. Keri begins by exploring why understanding your numbers matters and why so many business owners avoid them. From fear and time pressure to confusing systems and poor data, Keri identifies the real, human barriers that stop people from engaging with their finances. She then introduces a simple progression model - from 'blinkers on' to 'confidence' - helping readers identify where they are and what the next step looks like. Beyond the numbers, Accelerate connects business performance to real life. Understanding your finances is not just about staying compliant or turning a profit. It's about reducing stress, improving confidence and creating a business that supports your life, rather than consuming it. Accelerate provides a steady, human approach to financial understanding, equipping business owners with the tools to take control of their numbers, make better decisions and build a business that works for them.
