Sue is the woman who has everything: brains, beauty, wealth, and status through her marriage to Simon, the Hospital Consultant, yet with a defencelessness that makes everybody want to protect, even possess her. Vulnerable, Sue hovers between the old and the new. When she loses control the result is horrific and disastrous. Her world collapses and the lives of those who know her are changed forever. But has the narrative ended there? Thank God for those who demonstrate stability! New relationships will be forged; children will develop. People's flaws and strengths will make an impact on those around: so long as the seas continue to ebb and flow, the Story of Life can never end. Olive Clarke has given us another gripping tale where there is the tendency for disaster to follow the caprices of fallible humans. Despite everything we move on as best we can, and somehow the Author brings relief through her management of both storyline and imaginative language.
