Busted! is a book about an ordinary woman with extraordinary true tales that will make you laugh, weep, grit your teeth, ask questions, or shake your head in wonder. Each of the 27 essays in this memoir sheds light on the human condition from a writer who has lived life to the fullest.
At age six, a guide at a remote hunting and fishing lodge taught Sandra how to paddle a canoe. That experience shaped her life. As a child, the author also developed an insatiable curiosity which has guided her to learn new skills, including becoming an entrepreneur, a farmer, a freelance writer, and an author.
With warmth and wisdom, Phinney confronts life head-on and shares a mountain of experiences, both simple and exotic. And she doesn't shy away from her own foibles. More than once, she failed to listen to her intuition and paid the price. She has, however, learned to pay attention to people, places, and experiences. Even things like a stick she finds in the forest with engravings of a beetle captures her attention. As does getting tattoos, the history of condoms, folk art, the relativity of time, and her mother's weird recipe for rappie pie.
When you read how she was arrested at age 75 while taking part in a forest blockade, you'll relate to the depth of her passion for the environment and the importance she places on saving old forests and our species at risk. Tuck in themes of love, family, survival, resilience, and redemption, and there you have it. But most of all, Sandra Phinney is a riveting storyteller who will entertain and enlighten.
