Creating Brand in the Building Automation, Controls, and Smart Buildings Space explores how branding, trust, and ecosystem strategy shape the future of intelligent buildings through the lens of the Niagara Framework® and the broader building automation industry.
For decades, building automation operated largely behind the scenes-technical, fragmented, and often invisible to building owners and occupants. But as buildings become smarter, more connected, and increasingly data-driven, branding now matters in ways the industry has never fully recognized. The companies that lead the next generation of smart buildings will not simply deliver technology; they will build trust, create ecosystems, establish market identity, and shape long-term customer relationships.
Drawing on decades of industry experience, Marc Petock examines the evolution of building automation from proprietary control systems to open, interoperable platforms that enable collaboration across manufacturers, system integrators, consulting engineers, software developers, and facility owners. Through practical insight and industry perspective, the book explores:
• The rise of open architecture and interoperability
• The role of the Niagara Framework® in transforming smart buildings
• How branding influences technology adoption and market leadership
• The importance of ecosystem thinking in connected buildings
• Why trust, reputation, and customer experience matter in technical industries
• The future of intelligent and autonomous buildings
More than a technology book, this work examines how branding and innovation intersect in one of the world's most important-but often overlooked-industries. It provides valuable insight for system integrators, manufacturers, engineers, consultants, facility managers, technology leaders, and anyone interested in the future of the built environment.
