With missing body parts, extra legs, and eyes growing inside mouths, something unusual is happening to frogs. As their environment changes, frogs have become animals on the edge. Discover how scientists are trying to answer the questions behind deformed frogs.
"Tackling recent incidents involving animals in jeopardy, these well-organized books go behind the sensational headlines to provide a deeper understanding of the issues. The titles document the problem, give relevant background information, investigate probable causes, and suggest possible solutions. Excellent discussions address those who doubt the severity of the issue and those who wonder why people should care what happens to animals. The captioned photographs are timely and poignant. Despite grim predictions, the books maintain an encouraging tone. A first-rate series that makes serious subject matter interesting and accessible."
Series Made Simple; School Library Journal
"Animals change along with human populations. Each book in this series begins with a problem that is solved through a series of questions. For example, in the elephant book, elephants act out and turn against their trainers. At the end, there are solutions for learning to co-exist with the elephants. I was intrigued by the flowcharts and the lists of animal resources/organizations. Each book also includes colorful photos, charts, maps, and graphic organizers. Vocabulary is defined in context as well as in a glossary. Bibliography. Glossary. Websites Table of Contents. Index. Additional Selection."
