Summer was never supposed to freeze.
Destiny Halliwell survived the awakening of Artemis within her, but knowing who she is has not made her life easier. She is human, goddess, and something caught between the two, carrying powers and memories she does not fully understand. Hoping a move to Calgary will give her enough distance to regain some control, Destiny instead finds herself at the centre of an impossible disaster.
A catastrophic Whiteout descends across Alberta in the middle of summer.
Snow buries highways. Power grids and pipelines fail. Airports close. Communities become isolated as a modern province discovers how quickly ordinary systems can collapse beneath something that should not exist.
While Destiny struggles with grief and the dangerous belief that her growing powers should allow her to undo what has been lost, another young woman is already living with an ancient power of her own.
Linnea Barrowman has spent years sharing her consciousness with, the Norse goddess of winter, mountains, hunting, and vengeance.
She and Skadi share memories, thoughts, awareness, and a divided inner soul-force known as the Hugr. Skadi can take control, but Linnea remains present, and beneath Skadi's fury is a fierce determination to protect the human life she shares.
And Skadi remembers something Destiny does not.
Artemis killed her.
Now an ancient conflict has returned with them.
As the Whiteout tightens its grip on Alberta, Destiny must uncover what happened between Artemis and Skadi centuries ago and why their unfinished battle may be connected to something far more dangerous. The truth refuses to divide neatly into hero and villain. Skadi believes Artemis destroyed a balance she was trying to protect. Destiny begins to discover that Artemis's past may be far more complicated than the legend she inherited.
Destroying Skadi may also mean destroying Linnea. Saving Linnea may mean facing an enemy Destiny cannot simply overpower, and grief tempts Destiny toward an even more dangerous choice: if she can bend time and reality, why should she accept losing anyone at all?
