There is so much that children can learn from the eagle-our national symbol. Eli the Eagle gives a bird's eye view of life inside an eagle's nest. Written in rhyme, this charming story of a timid eaglet who is afraid to fly will win the hearts of young readers. Eli doesn't want to leave his nest. He is comfortable where he is-warm, cozy, and well-fed. Join mother and father eagle as they encourage their eaglet son to spread his wings. Eli gains courage when he learns the meaning of his name. As the story progresses, Eli's feathers change color as he grows from an eaglet to a fledgling to an adult bird. At the back of the book, children will enjoy the eagle jokes as well as the challenge to draw an eagle of their own. Finding and counting the butterflies on page after page of lovely watercolor illustrations by Amy Thelen is additional fun. Included is stunning eagle photography and a photo of the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota. Eli the Eagle is a story that asks to be read again and again.
