The Hunger Games meets Eragon. Poppy Creek stands in ruins and ash after the Scorch. The community lives in basements that were once their beloved homes and must trade, barter, and steal to survive. To say the loss of the dragons has taken its toll on the island is an understatement. 19-year-old Aleksandra has never seen a dragon, but she is connected to one still in his egg. Then she discovers King Rossling started the dragon war to take control of the dragons, control only a Makado may possesses. Now he has to form alliances--with her and others--to save his beloved island but most of all to keep him in power. Can Aleksandra find her dragon and bring her community back to a safe haven, or will the Serpent Queen overthrow King Rossling and claim his lands as her own?
