About

Jun Anzu has one very small problem.
She is the smallest child in her class.
So small, in fact, that her head barely reaches her teacher's knees. Her raised hand disappears behind her desk, people sometimes forget she is there, and everywhere she goes she hears the same question:
"When are you going to grow, Jun Anzu?"
Jun Anzu wishes she knew.
More than anything, she wants to be noticed. She wants to participate in class, speak up, and feel like she belongs with the other children. But after another day of being overlooked, Jun Anzu goes home frustrated and asks the question herself.
When will she grow?
Her father understands better than she expects. When he was young, he had the opposite problem: he kept growing taller and taller and wondered when he would ever stop.
Then he gives Jun Anzu a new way to think about growing.
She may not be able to decide how much her body grows, but she can choose how much she grows on the inside.
Jun Anzu begins imagining an entire universe inside herself, full of light and possibility. The next morning, she returns to school with a cushion to help her see over her desk and a giant paper hand on a stick so her teacher cannot miss her when she raises it.
And this time, Jun Anzu makes herself heard.
Warm, imaginative, and gently empowering, Jun Anzu is a picture book about self-esteem, confidence, body differences, inclusion, and finding the courage to take up space even when you feel small.
Young readers will discover that being noticed does not require becoming someone else. Sometimes it means learning how to use the voice, creativity, and confidence already inside you.
Perfect for families, classrooms, libraries, counselors, and children who have ever felt too small, overlooked, shy, different, or unsure of where they fit.
Because the most important kind of growing does not always happen on the outside.
Sometimes it happens within.
