Have we been misunderstanding leadership all along?
25-year veteran executive coach, Dr Martin Kettelhut challenges long-held beliefs about leadership in his groundbreaking book, Leadership as Relation.
Traditionally, we've viewed leaders as inherently different - equipped with unique styles and traits. However, this perspective overlooks a crucial aspect: leadership is not a solo endeavor; it's a shared, evolving journey. Dr. Kettelhut demonstrates that the crisis in modern leadership - characterized by disconnection, disproportionate responsibility, and corrupt agendas - stems from this outdated individualist viewpoint.
Isn't true leadership about fostering empowering relationships? What if it's not about having all the answers, charisma, and power? What if it's not about acting and communicating differently from others, but instead about being attuned to the needs and potential of the marriage, the team, or the nation?
In Leadership as Relation, Dr. Kettelhut unveils a new science of leadership based on capacity-expanding connection. Using vivid examples from homes, companies, and governments, he demonstrates how the absence of real relatedness leads to deleterious or failed leadership. He then offers a blueprint for cultivating deep, powerful relationships, redefining the essence of leadership in our modern world. This book is an invitation to rethink and embrace leadership that empowers, unites, and uplifts.
"Given the dysfunction we see everywhere around us-in government, education, business, religious institutions, and families, to name but a few-Leadership as Relation seems to be a most timely and important book, perhaps even an essential one. It not only clearly maps out the problem, but also offers a plausible way out of the disordered condition we find ourselves in today." --Gary J. Richmond, The Peirce e-Forum Moderator, City University of New York
