Les Ruines de Paris a été publié en 1977 dans la collection « Le Chemin » dirigée par Georges Lambrichs aux éditions Gallimard. Ce recueil succède à un cycle de poèmes élégiaques—Amen, 1968; Récitatif, 1970 ; La Tourne, 1975—dont le dernier titre annonce un changement qui va élargir son champ d'inspiration. Né en 1929, originaire de Lunéville, Jacques Réda, écrivain chroniqueur de jazz, évoque sa dérive à travers les arrondissements et les banlieues de Paris o il habite, pour mieux fuir au-delà, sur les rails et les routes, de la Bretagne à Fribourg.
