Heckie is not just a witch–she's a witch who means to make the world a better place. Helped by Daniel and his friend Sumi, as well as an assortment of local wizards, Heckie does good all over the place. But then, one fateful day, she meets the smarmily charming Mr Knacksap, and all is very nearly lost. Eva Ibbotson writes for both adults and children. Her books for children, with their fantastic creatures, outrageous characters, dark humour and brilliant storytelling, have much in common with Roald Dahl's. "Which Witch?" was runner-up for the Carnegie Medal and "The Secret of Platform 13" was shortlisted for the Smarties Prize. She lives in Newcastle.
