As an old priest told me, "a good priest never really retires; he just finds new ways to carry on what he has always done". George Six is one such person. Since almost as soon as I met him, he impressed me as someone who had been given something to do by God. It was not until I entered seminary that I realized that he is very much like Elijah, the Old Testament prophet. George understands sin to be the consequence of forces of evil in human society so that salvation must involve the redemption of the social order as well as the redemption of the individual. Similar to Elijah, George has been either a prophetic voice or a thorn in the sides to many in the political and ecclesiastical hierarchies. He has not ceased to be such a presence and he probably shall not cease until his light goes off on Earth and re-ignites in Heaven.
