Perseverance Was My First Language: From Córdoba to Courage - A Story of Survival, Loss, and Love Reclaimed
What happens when a little girl from Córdoba, Argentina grows up between bullets in her neighborhood, uprooted by immigration, silenced by grief, and still finds a way to rise?
In this raw and intimate memoir, Evelyn Pinto-Cardona shares her journey of resilience as a Latina immigrant, a mother, and a woman who learned to speak perseverance before she spoke English.
From childhood nights spent ducking for safety, to the bittersweet airport goodbye that marked the start of her life in the U.S., to the unimaginable pain of losing her firstborn son in the NICU, Evelyn takes readers into the heart of survival and the beauty that can still grow from it.
But this is not just a story of loss.
It is a story of rebuilding.
Of finding love in unexpected places, of creating a family while carrying grief, of founding Reconnect Therapy Services and Tiny Warriors Foundation to honor her son's legacy and help others heal.
For readers of memoirs like I Am Malala and When Breath Becomes Air, this book is a reminder that even in the deepest wounds, there can be light, connection, and purpose.
Whether you are a parent, a fellow immigrant, a therapist, or simply someone who has carried pain and wondered if joy was still possible, Evelyn's words will remind you:
You can bend without breaking.
You can grieve and still grow.
You can carry loss and still choose love.
