About

While serving a warrant, Deputy Kent McGowen shot and killed Susan White after she pulled a gun on him. The other deputies corroborated his story. What seemed like an open-and-shut case of self-defense derailed when rumor and innuendo were spread by media, social media and word of mouth. They said that Kent murdered Susan because they were having an affair, because she rejected his advances or he just wanted to make a name for himself. Despite no actual evidence of any of those claims, Kent went to prison. He's done his time now, but his case is a landmark example of how criminal courts and juries can be manipulated, and send a person to prison without a reason to.
