Multiple generations, three wars that changed the history of the world...and one family's travels across the ocean in search of a new life in the New World. The MacKenzie children come to America as indentured servants of their parents' employer, the Fraser family. They are raised alongside the Frasers' own children, becoming tobacco farmers in Colonial Virginia. Unlike typical founding families during this time, the Frasers welcome their slaves as family members by educating them, housing them in homes instead of shacks, and never selling them. As they grow up, the MacKenzie children cling to their learned values of kindness, generosity, and love even as they move to rural Tennessee and become more successful than their ancestors could have ever imagined.
