"...a cut above many McCaffrey stories - entertaining, involving, yet thoroughly thought-provoking, all in one." Midwest Book Review
When a dream is more than what it seems
Ariyana has lived a double life since she was six years old.
By day, she is a mother to twin boys and a wife to a distant husband who would rather silence her fears than help her understand them.
Each night, the same dream returns. In it, she is no longer human. She watches helplessly as her dragon-like companion is torn apart by insect-like creatures. Every night she fails to save him. Every morning she wakes with his name burned into her soul.
Glacin.
On the morning of her thirtieth birthday, Ariyana's two lives collide as creatures from her dreams appear on Earth. She soon learns the unsettling truth: her nightmares haven't been dreams at all, but a memory. Ariyana also realizes she's not who she thought she was.
Now, hunted by the same beings that destroyed her companion and their mysterious leader, Ariyana must confront a past she cannot remember to protect the family she loves.
The only question is whether she'll reclaim who she was in time... or lose everything she's trying to save.
With Shattered Energy: A Memory in Time, author Athena Plencner delivers an assured, emotionally resonant debut, and the first volume in a new series that will appeal to readers who crave high-concept storytelling grounded in deeply human stakes.
