St. Ronan's Well

A Scottish spa town, an old quarrel between two half-brothers over a woman, and a mistake at a wedding that ruins three lives. Scott's only novel set in his own day; his publisher made him cut the seduction, and the plot has a hole in it ever since. This edition binds 52 plates after Wilkie, Munch, Morland and Gainsborough, and restores all seven in-text illustrations in colour.
