Tess is a sassy and kind kindergarten teacher who is facing a couple of life-altering situations. One: a possible change of career-she just isn't sure what she wants to do. Two: unexpectedly becoming the temporary guardian of her 14-year-old niece for the foreseeable future. After a burst pipe in her apartment leaves her in yet another crisis, Tess has to find a place to stay for a few weeks. Just when she is about to resort to a hotel room, Adam Oakley - the star goalie for the Dallas Storm, who also happens to be the one guy who turned down Tess' advances - steps in to save the day.
Adam Oakley is also at a crossroads in his career: does he stay with the Dallas Storm, where he has found a family among his teammates, or move back to his hometown of Chicago? Oakley has always liked his orderly life, so when the beautiful and strong-willed Tess and her misunderstood niece move in for a month, his world gets tilted on its axis.
