Back in Xochimilco, where the series began, Gabe investigates chinampa restoration, canal life, water quality, axolotl conservation, and the work required to keep a living lake landscape from becoming scenery. Lupita returns as a capable local keeper whose community controls what the canals will - and will not - reveal. The original canal Crossing opens in reverse, drawing together every lesson the family has learned about names, consent, correction, and return. One final choice will decide whether the Second Record belongs to an institution, a family, or the communities that kept it alive. Every road has led back to the beginning. The question is whether it can finally lead home.
