In turn-of-the-century New Orleans, struggling magician Edward Renard is running out of time. His once-promising career has collapsed, leaving him performing on street corners for spare coins. When his latest act fails and humiliation threatens to swallow him whole, Edward is approached by two mysterious strangers with an offer: a deck of cards unlike anything he has ever seen... and the chance to become extraordinary. What begins as a desperate wish soon twists into a dangerous pact tied to the shadows of Voodoo. The cards grant Edward real magic-illusions that bend reality, tricks that defy nature, and power that surges through his blood-but every performance comes with a cost. As his fame rises, so does the haunting presence of something ancient that watches him from behind every veil of smoke. When Edward meets Eve, a down-on-her-luck beggar girl with a sharp mind and a bruised past, she becomes the only light in his descent. But the demons who granted his power have plans of their own, and the secret behind the cursed deck threatens not only Edward's soul, but anyone who dares stand beside him. Gripping, atmospheric, and richly layered with Southern Gothic dread, The Great Fox is a slow-burn horror tale of love, ambition, and the terrible price of wishing for more. As Edward's powers grow, so does the darkness pulling him under-forcing him to choose between becoming the legend he always dreamed of... or the monster he never meant to be.
