This is the text of a lecture given by Sir Ramsay at the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford University, In 1913. This was one of the Ramones lectures - a tradition still going to this day - where the Vice-Chancellor invites an eminent speaker from the world of the arts, sciences or literature to speak on a topic of his or her choice. Politics and religion are excluded. Sir Ramsay gets around this particular problem by talking about an ideal scenario that he believes will never exist; that of peace in Europe.
