Dragons soar above the city. Gangsters rule the streets. And one theft could start a war.
In the sprawling archipelago of Rainshadow, dragons soar above neon-lit skylines, ancient Sun Spirits walk unseen among mortals, and powerful criminal syndicates control the streets.
For Toshiko, Jun, and Mei Kawakami, survival has always meant living outside the law. Bound by loyalty rather than blood, the three are united by a single goal: revenge against the Lucky Crows, the ruthless crime organisation responsible for the murder of the woman who raised them.
When Toshiko steals a priceless dragon pearl from the Crow's feared leader, she sparks a chain of events that will shake the foundations of Rainshadow City.
Far above the city's streets, Haru-the Emperor's son and heir to a troubled legacy-can see mysterious Sun Spirits no one else believes exist. Meanwhile, Theo, an immigrant trapped in the Lucky Crows' criminal empire, dreams of escape but finds himself caught in a war he never wanted.
As their lives collide, ancient magic awakens, long-buried secrets emerge, and the fate of the Archipelago hangs in the balance.
Epic, immersive, and impossible to put down, The Rainshadow Orphans is the breathtaking first novel in a brand-new fantasy series blending Japanese mythology, dragon lore, found family, cyberpunk intrigue, and unforgettable adventure.
Perfect for fans of Studio Ghibli, Arcane, Final Fantasy, Shadow and Bone, and Jade City, this sweeping fantasy epic explores power, corruption, loyalty, and the courage to choose your own destiny.
