The Steel-Blue Conspiracy
Twelve-year-old Serayah Kariuki never imagined that an old second-hand bed could change her life. But Bubble Bed is no ordinary bed. It can fly faster than a jet, shrink to the size of a peppercorn, expand to gigantic proportions, and surround its passengers with a mysterious protective bubble. Most strangely of all, it seems to have a mind of its own.
Together with her lively best friend Lucy and her family, Serayah soon finds herself swept into an extraordinary adventure that stretches from the forests and mountains of Kenya to the deserts and mining towns of outback Australia.
What begins as a daring rescue on Mount Kenya quickly leads to something far more dangerous. Serayah's father, Francis Kariuki, a respected wildlife ranger, is falsely accused of a crime he did not commit after uncovering evidence of an international smuggling syndicate trafficking elephant tusks and rhino horns. Corrupt police officers, secretive businessmen, hidden warehouses, and powerful criminals all seem connected to a mysterious figure known only as "The Persuader."
Using Bubble Bed's astonishing abilities, Serayah, Lucy, and their growing circle of allies begin gathering evidence against the syndicate. Their investigations take them into prisons, warehouses, hidden tunnels, dangerous bushfires, and even underground mine shafts beneath Broken Hill, Australia. Along the way they encounter eccentric new friends, ruthless enemies, close escapes, and moments of breathtaking wonder.
But beneath the adventure lies something deeper. As the danger intensifies, Serayah is forced to confront painful memories she has carried since childhood-the drowning of her little brother Moses and the grief that has haunted her family ever since. Through courage, friendship, humour, and the support of those around her, she slowly begins to understand that healing does not happen alone.
Filled with action, mystery, humour, heart, and richly drawn settings inspired by real places in Kenya and Australia, The Steel-Blue Conspiracy is a fast-paced middle-grade adventure about bravery, resilience, friendship, family, and the fight against corruption and wildlife crime.
Perfect for readers who enjoy imaginative adventures with memorable characters, emotional depth, and a touch of magic, this first instalment in the Bubble Bed Adventures series introduces a unique world where even the smallest bed can carry people into the biggest adventures imaginable.
