Marrying personal stories with research, The Worst Thing is author Alexis Young's candid memoir that exposes the secrecy, myths, and destruction related to addiction. Alexis brings light to her brother, Tyler's life, and his battle with opioid addiction that ultimately led to his accidental death. This story, though tragic, is filled with fond childhood memories. As the reader you will meet the smart, caring, and typically annoying little brother who filled so many lives with joy. You will dive deep and learn how his individual situation is indicative of the larger problem.
Less than 20 percent of individuals who need addiction services actually receive the help they so desperately need. This memoir helps answer the questions:
• How does someone become addicted? • What kind of services are out there for those who need addiction help? • What is fentanyl and why is the opioid crisis such a problem now?
While the ending may not be a happy one, The Worst Thing honors Tyler and attempts to aid those who are, or those who know someone battling addiction or substance abuse.
