Mant Marten, a nonbinary wizard's apprentice on the cusp of greatness, has a very clear idea of how to get there. They've listened to the fireside stories all their life, and clearly the most important ingredients to making one's name are a noble motive and good old perseverance.
Armed to the teeth with confidence, they make their way deep into the Undying Realms to accept a challenge from mythical sprites for the chance to win a piece of ancient magic-but what if their motive isn't quite so noble after all?
Way Back When is a standalone fairy tale novella set in the age of legends and is a perfect read for fans of T. Kingfisher and the Emily Wilde series.
