What the Land Keeps is a rural romantic suspense novel set in a small country town in New South Wales.
When Alice Gordon returns to her childhood farmhouse to settle her family estate, she expects a brief stay marked by paperwork and closure. Instead, she is confronted by subtle disturbances and an increasing sense that someone is watching - someone who knows the land intimately and believes it was never meant to be hers.
As Alice begins to uncover inconsistencies surrounding the property's boundaries and history, the tension escalates from quiet unease to unmistakable danger. The deeper she looks, the clearer it becomes that long-held silences and unspoken agreements have shaped the town for generations.
Forced to rely on Tom Callaghan - a local who understands both the rhythms of the land and the cost of defying it - Alice must confront not only the truth buried in the soil, but the personal history she left behind.
Blending slow-burn romantic tension with psychological suspense, What the Land Keeps explores themes of land ownership, loyalty, silence, and the consequences of looking away. This novel is the first book in The Taravale Series, a place-based collection of rural suspense novels that can be read independently or as part of the series.
