Judith and Kali have left behind their hidden world in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. With Paul by her side, Judith faces adjusting to life on the "outside." It's a whole new world to still mute Kali, who finds that she loves hamburgers and fries, and learns what it's like to have a friend her age. Paul's parents take them in, and the girls are comforted by being part of a family again. The girls experience a constant stream of new experiences as they adjust to modern life.
