About

In Odisha, when talk of Wetlands, always Chilika comes to our mind. But in my view, Anshupa located in Cuttack district at a distance of 55 km from Bhubaneswar is more splendid and euphoric. You can enjoy Anshupa for its, floating vegetation in tranquil water, a fisherman for hours in action, and musical chirping of birds, both local and migratory. Situated near the bank of River Mahanadi and surrounded by hills of the Eastern Ghats, namely Saranda hills in the Western side and Bishnupur hills in the Eastern side, Anshupa is a horse-shoe-shaped water body and the Largest Natural Freshwater Lake in Odisha. The lake is naturally created by river Mahanadi and spread over an area of 140 acres. Anshupa has immense biodiversity which includes a prominent species of submerged plants and 26 species of distinct floating and emergent aquatic plants. Besides more than 200 other species of plants were reported by different researchers. It is also home to 33 species of fish, 3 species of prawns, 10 species of reptiles and 50 species of resident and migratory birds.
