The decline of Christianity in the U.S. is a symptom of its theological crisis: the entanglement of Christian supremacy with white racism, shrouded in a savior complex. In today's post-Christian world, the supremacy entanglement takes the shape of white Christian congregations (of all ideologies) striving to save their communities by imposing religious morals as social solutions. It looks like American Christians complaining when people say, "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." And it reliably demonstratesitself in white Christians' unwillingness to view supremacy as a problem-not only for the racialized "other" but for whites themselves. Dismantling White Christian Supremacy is an instructive review of the history undergirding the legacy of supremacy, andan urgent call for white American congregations to invest in a living faith apart from the status quo through three essential steps.
