About

It is March 1982 and Danita Khan is ten years old. Her parents have separated and she is living in social housing with her mother who is struggling financially after spending money on sending Danita to private school for two years.

Sarita Khan is protective of Danita, her only child, so Danita is not allowed out with her friends but has to stay at home with her mother when she is not at school.

An only child with no siblings for company, Danita is often bored. She finds solace in reading books and talking to her poster of Simon Le Bon and to God! Danita dreams of the day when life will get better, when life will be fun.

In her final year of primary school, Dani is struggling to come to terms with upcoming secondary transfer when she has to leave the safe, cosy atmosphere of primary school to go to "big school." She is struggling to cope with the effects of puberty and finding out the facts of life when two other children tell her in the school playground how babies are made!
Just a few years ago, Danita Khan lived in a world that was exciting, a world of fantasy and fairy tales, a world where there was Santa, fairies, an Easter bunny and a stork who brought babies from God!

Now, Dani lives in a world where there is no Santa, no fairies, no Easter Bunny and no stork! She is living in a world where people are struggling with puberty and growing pains, and then, she finds out from friends in the school playground how babies are made!

Danita is NOT impressed. Her whole world is changing and she has to cope with change and yet, more change...
