Medusa, once a bewitching beauty, has become a hideous monster with snakes for hair. When men look at her, they turn to stone. Whe King Polydectes sends Perseus for Medusas head, he thinks Perseus will soon be another one of Medusas stone men. Or will he?
"The convoluted tale of how Perseus slew Medusa begins with his mother Danae, desired by King Polydectes of Seriphos, although she loves a fisherman. To win her, he announces his marriage to another woman, requiring each family to bring an engagement gift. Since he can't afford one, Perseus is challenged by Polydectes to bring him the head of Medusa. She is a once-beautiful Gorgon who Athena turned ugly. Her hair is snakes and those looking at her are turned to stone. Aided by Athena and the Stygian nymphs who give him gifts he needs, Perseus returns with Medusa's head. Looking at it, Polydectes is turned to stone. A "Cast of Characters" and "Words to Know" are helpfully given at the beginning. With current interest in mythology, this is a sure fire hit."
