#2 I was not qualified to be a minister, but my wife, Carol, was a gifted organist and pianist, so I got through it by relying on her talent. We moved to New Jersey, and somehow we made it through that first year.
#3 I was asked to preach at the multiracial Brooklyn Tabernacle, another church my father-in-law supervised. The atmosphere was tense, and the worship style was chaotic. I sensed that the church had big problems.
#4 The church's first mortgage payment was due at the end of the month. The checking account showed that they would default right off the bat. I prayed to God, and he answered my prayers by sending two $50 bills through the mail.
