Famous for the Klondike Gold Rush, Carcross, YK has long experienced outsiders coming to town looking to strike it rich. In 2005, the Carcross Tagish First Nation achieved self-governance and control of their own lands. Now world-class mountain-biking trails and other local initiatives are bringing in up to 1,000 tourists a day. The town must now find a way to continue inviting the world in, while protecting what is most important - their land, and the people who call Carcross home.

Rogersville went from having two reliable industries to none and entire families were forced to move away for work. Now this Acadian community is looking to their youth for the solution. This new crop of leaders is focused entirely on possibilities for the future, and on making the town a place where people want to stay.

Wilberforce, ON, may have lost its industry and its only bank, but it still has is its natural outdoor beauty and a community that refuses to give up. Now, thanks to an outdoor game with a wide reach and international appeal, Wilberforce is back on the map.

Cobalt was once one of the largest silver producers in the world with its streets painted by the Group of Seven and its silver traded on the NY Stock Exchange. But, with grand success came equal misfortune. When the mines closed, the town fell into decline. Today, there's renewed interest in developing the untapped, leftover cobalt for use in modern technology. If all goes well, Cobalt's mining past may very well be what saves its future.

As the oldest Danish community in Canada, New Denmark was once home to thriving potato farms, schools, and even a renowned ski hill. But, the aggregation of farming resulted in a population drop, cultural intermingling, and a loss of Danish traditions and businesses. But despite it all, New Denmark has made it to its 145th year. The locals are proud and passionate about their history, and are doing what they can to keep their Danish traditions alive.

Now that Fraser Lake has lost the mine (its main employer) and its only grocery store, depopulation has become a very real threat. But Fraser Lake's residents have lived through their fair share of hardship and they are both proud and resourceful. The mine may have built Fraser Lake but in its absence, the people are building a community.

After years of assimilation, a cultural revitalization began on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory 40 years ago. Today, the community looks to the younger generation to maintain the traditions of the Mohawk people while continuing the Territory's legacy of bringing all First Nations people together.

Huntingdon, Quebec was known as the town that clothed Canada thanks to textile giants, Huntington Mills and Cleyn & Tinker. When the mills closed their doors, 2000 people lost their jobs - a big blow for a town of 2500. Now entrepreneurs with fresh ideas are re-energizing this former textile town.

For years, Radisson's welcome sign defiantly announced it as "The Town with the Future," even though their future was very much in question due to rural decline. But this town has a history of fighting back in spectacular ways. 13-year old, Judah Tyreman, and his amazing rock and gem museum are leading their latest fight. Without even meaning to, Judah has brought new life and new energy to Radisson.
